Introduction to project management

What is covered?

The aim of this course is to develop participant’s ability to plan, organise and control projects. Tools and techniques discussed will cover areas such as budgeting, resourcing, documenting, risk management and critical path analysis with a view to effective implementation of future projects.

Who will benefit?

Participants expecting to be responsible for delivering projects, and looking for some guidance on how to ensure they can plan, track and deliver effectively.  As an introductory course no prior knowledge is assumed.

Course content

  • Outline the phases of the project life cycle and challenges in each phase
  • Discuss ways to plan and sequence work within a project and break down activities into comprehensible steps (including critical path analysis)
  • Explain how to budget with a view to efficient use of resources and how to track deviations from the budget
  • Show how to manage change and conflict to keep the project on schedule and identify risk factors which may push a project off plan
  • Describe effective tools for measurement and control of on-going projects and design a set of success criteria as part of a formalised reporting structure
  • Show how identification of necessary actions to close out a project help to bring a project to a successful conclusion
